First female paramedic on the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance to meet Prince William at College of Paramedics Conference

Jean Cragg MBE, a volunteer Paramedic with East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme, was selected to be one of the Paramedics to meet HRH Prince William, at the recent College of Paramedics Conference in Birmingham, where he became their Patron.
Jean, who has dedicated 45 years to to her profession, was the first operational Paramedic in Nottinghamshire Ambulance Service and also the first to work on the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.
She has also been involved  with EMICS since its inception, 40 years ago.

Prince William, recently appointed Patron of the College of Paramedics, delivered a speech at the conference, which explored decision-making under pressure. Drawing on his two years as an air ambulance pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance, he praised paramedics for their commitment, skill, and resilience in responding to some of the most critical and challenging situations.

Before his speech, HRH met with key delegates, including Jean, who spoke about her career and voluntary work. She said:

“I feel honoured to have been one of the paramedics selected to meet HRH The Prince of Wales. We spoke about my work with EMICS and my time on the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance. It was an amazing experience.”

The College of Paramedics Conference is an annual event, bringing together professionals from across the UK to share knowledge and improve patient care. Jean’s significant contributions to emergency care in the East Midlands, both during her career and through her voluntary work, were acknowledged at the event as an example of the dedication shown across the paramedic profession.
