Patient and Family Support

We understand that the impact of a medical emergency lasts long after our team leaves the scene.

While EMICS provides immediate critical care, we are committed to helping you find the right path to recovery by connecting you with specialist support services and answering your questions about the care we provided.

Bystander and Witnessing an Incident Support

Witnessing a traumatic event or stepping in to provide life-saving help—such as performing CPR—can be an overwhelming experience. It is natural to feel a range of emotions in the days and weeks following an incident.

While our Doctors and Paramedics focus on immediate clinical care, we care deeply about the wellbeing of everyone present at the scene. If you are struggling with what you saw or experienced, you do not have to process it alone.

Below are some useful resources for support:

British Heart Foundation – Support if you’ve given CPR

NHS – Coping with stress following a major incident

Royal College of Psychiatrists – Coping after a traumatic event

Resus Council UK – Co-survivor support

Get in Touch with our Team

At EMICS, our involvement often ends at the hospital doors or on scene. Because of the way we work alongside the NHS, we rarely receive updates on the people we have treated. We always value hearing from patients, their loved ones, or those who were present at the scene.

If you would like to reach out to us—whether to share an update on a recovery, provide feedback on the care you received, or simply to talk through what happened at the scene—we are here to listen.

As a charity, these personal accounts are vital. They help us demonstrate the real-world value of our volunteer Doctors and Paramedics and ensure we continue to provide the highest standard of pre-hospital care across the East Midlands.

If you were a patient, family member, or a witness to an incident we attended, please contact our support team in confidence.
