Every week, EMICS doctors and paramedics help restart a heart following cardiac arrest. One in five of our patients receives anesthetics to relieve severe pain. Every day, your support makes these advanced, life-saving interventions possible. At the roadside, in a remote field, or in people’s homes.
Now, we’re looking ahead to secure our future.
In response to rising costs, increasing insurance demands on our volunteer doctors, and changes to clinical regulation, we’re exploring a new model of working. One that builds on the success we’ve already seen.
This means moving toward operating solely through dedicated Fast Response Vehicles (FRVs), rather than volunteers having to use their own cars. While personal vehicle use played a vital role in EMICS’s legacy of lifesaving care and we are grateful for the commitment that made it possible. This next step will ensure we can continue delivering vital care to people across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Northamptonshire, and Lincolnshire.
Since launching our first Fast Response Vehicle (FRV) in 2019, we’ve seen the difference it makes. Now, our trustees are looking to expand this model by securing a second FRV to enhance our capabilities.
Dr Matt Woods, a doctor on the FRV said: “Having everything I need in the FRV, professionally maintained and ready to go, takes a huge weight off my shoulders. I don’t have to worry about kit or storing it, allowing me to focus fully on delivering critical care where it’s needed most.”
Dr Tim Gray MBE, Founder and Chair, said: “By centralising our operations through an FRV only model, we’ll be able to create a service that ultimately is able to help more people. This also allows our volunteers to give their time in a way that better supports their wellbeing and work-life balance.”
This model also supports our partnership with the East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) by introducing a shift-based system, providing more predictable coverage and faster response times.
Dr John Inman, Strategic Lead at EMICS, said: “Every step of this evolution is designed to make smarter use of supporters donations, deliver greater value to our patients, and help EMICS adapt responsibly in the face of rising demands with responsibility and care.”
While our model evolves, our mission does not. EMICS remains 100% donor-funded, volunteer-led and committed to compassionate, advanced emergency care.
It’s your generosity that powers our vehicles, equips our doctors, and saves lives. Thank you for continuing to stand with us. Now and into the future.
