Every second counts in an emergency. That’s why the East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme (EMICS) is introducing its new callsign: MEDIC 20, replacing XD04. The new identifier ensures EMICS’ critical care teams can be dispatched faster and more efficiently when 999 calls come in.
A callsign is the unique identifier used by the ambulance call center to recognise and deploy specialist resources. By switching to MEDIC 20, EMICS is now aligned with other critical care schemes across the East Midlands, making it quicker and easier to deploy EMICS’ specialist teams during life-threatening emergencies.
The callsign forms part of a wider refresh, with a new vehicle livery designed and delivered by FleetID of Clowne, Derbyshire. EMICS extends its thanks to FleetID for their work in bringing this new look to life. The livery also highlights EMICS’ valued partnership with CMS featuring the words: “Working in partnership with CMS.”
The MEDIC 20 vehicle will be crewed by a dual response team, consisting of:
- A doctor/critical care doctor
- A critical care paramedic/paramedic
What makes EMICS unique is its ability to deliver hospital-level treatments at the roadside, including complex interventions such as emergency heart procedures, providing care that would otherwise only be available in a hospital setting. EMICS also works alongside and supports ambulance crews, giving patients the very best chance of survival before they reach hospital.
Together, they bring advanced pre-hospital emergency care to patients across the East Midlands, supporting the Ambulance Service in some of the region’s most critical situations.
Dr Matt Woods, Chair of EMICS, said:
“The MEDIC 20 callsign is much more than a rebrand, it’s a vital step forward. It improves how we are identified and dispatched, helping our teams reach patients faster. With the ability to deliver hospital-level treatments at the roadside, and in support of our ambulance service colleagues, we can make a lifesaving difference. We are grateful to FleetID for their support and to CMS for their ongoing partnership.”
