The East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme (EMICS) has received the “Outstanding Achievement” award from the East Midlands Major Trauma Network. This award highlights the dedication of EMICS volunteers, who have been instrumental in delivering life-saving, high-quality emergency care across the region for over 40 years, with more than 50,000 patients treated to date. This recognition celebrates EMICS’s response efforts, as well as the collaboration among all partner organisations within the East Midlands Major Trauma Network.
As the busiest major trauma network in the country with the strongest clinical outcomes nationally, the East Midlands Major Trauma Network includes emergency departments, intensive and surgical care units, critical care teams, rehabilitation centers, and regional air ambulances. Together, these partners form an integrated trauma care system. By presenting EMICS with this award, the Network emphasised the indispensable role of EMICS in “bringing the hospital to the patient,” delivering expert care directly to those in critical need when every moment counts.
Key EMICS members—Dr. Matt Woods, Roger Linnell, and Jean Cragg—were recognised for their individual contributions to the charity, demonstrating commitment to meeting the emergency medical needs of the community.
Dr. Tim Baker accepted the award on behalf of EMICS, expressing his gratitude for this recognition: “I was very proud to accept the award on behalf of EMICS. Everyone involved in the charity deserves recognition for the care we bring to our patients, and this award is an acknowledgment of that commitment.”
During the event, Dr. Matt Woods demonstrated EMICS’s readiness in action, responding to a cardiac arrest nearby during the conference’s lunch break. Later in the afternoon, both Dr. Matt Woods and Dr. Tim Baker both responded to a nearby pediatric emergency.
These swift actions, made possible by EMICS’s fast-response vehicle, reflect the organisation’s core mission of rapid, effective emergency response.
This Outstanding Achievement award both reflects EMICS’s four decades of service and the vital role of volunteer-led emergency care across the East Midlands.
