A new chapter for EMICS
East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme (EMICS) is proud to share some important updates as we continue our mission to provide immediate medical care to those who need it most across our region.
Leadership changes
After 40 long years of dedicated service, we announce that Dr Tim Gray MBE our Chair of Trustees and the founder of EMICS, has stepped down from his role.
Tim established EMICS with the vision of bringing hospital-level emergency care to the roadside, providing life-saving care to over 50,000 lives across the East Midlands. His leadership, dedication, and commitment have shaped EMICS into the organisation it is today, a team of highly skilled volunteer doctors and paramedics who provide critical care in the moments it matters most.
We extend our thanks to Tim for his extraordinary contribution, and we are proud that his legacy will continue through the work of EMICS for years to come.
Dr Tim Gray MBE said:
“It has been an honor to lead EMICS for the past 40 years. I am incredibly proud of what our volunteers have achieved and will continue supporting the charity through fundraising to ensure lifesaving care reaches everyone who needs it.”
As we look to the future, we are delighted to welcome Dr Matt Woods as our new Chair of Trustees. Matt has been volunteering with EMICS since 2011 and is a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine in Leicester. His extensive frontline experience, both in hospital and on the roadside, makes him ideally placed to lead EMICS into its next chapter.
Dr Matt Woods said:
“I am honored to take on the role of Chair and to build on the legacy left by Dr Tim Gray. As we take forward this new collaborative approach, we look forward to forging new working relationships, sharing best practices and ultimately delivering the best care possible to our patients.”
Alongside Matt, we also welcome Jonathan Webb and Ian Johnson to the Board. Both bring valuable expertise and energy to EMICS. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing each of our new trustees individually. Together, this renewed leadership team will ensure EMICS remains strong, sustainable, and ready to meet the growing needs of our communities across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, and Lincolnshire.
New partnership with CMS
We are also pleased to announce a new partnership with Central Medical Services (CMS). As a trusted provider of frontline medical support services, CMS shares our commitment to delivering high-quality emergency care to those who need it most.
This collaboration is already helping EMICS by providing vital support such as equipment provision and logistical support, enabling our volunteer, critical care doctors and paramedics to focus on what they do best: delivering lifesaving care at the scene.
Importantly, we want to reassure our supporters that EMICS remains an independent charity and continues to rely 100% on donations from the public. CMS’s support is a valued addition, but it does not replace the generosity of our donors.
Every callout and every patient we reach is only possible because of the incredible support of our community.
Looking ahead
With new leadership and strong partnerships, EMICS is entering an exciting new chapter. But our mission remains the same: to save lives across the East Midlands by bringing hospital-level emergency care directly to those who need it.
We thank our founder, Dr Tim Gray MBE, for his extraordinary service, welcome our new leadership team, and look forward to working with CMS.
