On 9th October, supporter Sonia Keshwara sets off on the adventure of a lifetime: a demanding 14-day expedition trekking to Everest Base Camp to raise vital funds for the East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme (EMICS).
For Sonia, the motivation behind this monumental challenge is deeply personal. Ten years ago, the father of her close friend, Kuldip, was involved in a tragic accident. During that critical moment, volunteer EMICS clinicians responded to deliver immediate, specialist emergency care.
"Kuldip received amazing support from EMICS when his dad was in a tragic accident 10 years ago," Sonia shares. "In support of Kuldip and the amazing team at EMICS, I will be fundraising to help keep this vital service going. Trekking to Everest Base Camp is a huge personal challenge, but knowing that every step helps support EMICS keeps me going."
Standing at an altitude of 5,364 metres, Everest Base Camp presents extreme atmospheric conditions, sub-zero temperatures, and grueling physical terrain. Sonia is taking on this trek to ensure our volunteer clinicians can continue providing rapid, hospital-level care to patients and families across the region when every second counts.
As an independent charity receiving zero NHS or government funding, EMICS relies entirely on donations and community fundraising efforts like Sonia's to keep our team of volunteer clinicians operational. Every pound raised helps provide essential medications, specialist diagnostic equipment, and vehicle support required to respond to critical calls 24/7.
Everyone at EMICS would like to send Sonia our warmest wishes and massive encouragement as she navigates the Himalayas on this incredible 14-day trek.
