Meet the volunteer clinicians who bring hospital-level care directly to patients across the East Midlands.
Our volunteer doctors provide high-level advanced care to the local community. They support East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) with their extended skill sets, delivering hospital emergency department interventions at the scene — whether that's roadside, in the home, in children's playgrounds, in rural terrain or in city centres. Basically, wherever they are needed — always in their spare time and always unpaid.
EMICS doctors specialise in pre-hospital emergency medicine (PHEM), a sub-speciality of Anaesthetics, Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine and Acute Medicine recognised by the General Medical Council. Our paramedics have at least 5 years' post-qualification experience and, alongside volunteering for EMICS, often work as enhanced or advanced paramedics for the local ambulance service or the air ambulance.
