This past weekend, the East Midlands witnessed the valor and unwavering dedication of our EMICS doctors, who were instrumental in providing life-saving care in two harrowing incidents in Leicester.
On Friday evening, the swift action of two EMICS doctors was pivotal in the aftermath of a stabbing in Leicester. They were first to arrive at the scene, where they successfully stabilised the patient amidst challenging circumstances. Following their initial emergency care, the patient was handed over to the Air Ambulance team for rapid transportation to Coventry Major Trauma Centre, ensuring they received the specialised care needed without delay.
In a twist of fate, no sooner had they managed one crisis, our doctors were called upon to assist in another grave situation. A young female, in a separate incident, had been critically injured, suffering from a stabbing wound with a kitchen knife embedded in her chest. With the Air Ambulance now committed to a farming injury in Rutland, the versatility and commitment of our EMICS doctors shone brightly. They took the initiative to escort the patient to Nottingham QMC, prepared to utilise their enhanced surgical skills en route should the patient’s condition deteriorate.
Upon arrival at QMC, they were joined by another EMICS doctor, who had been part of the Air Ambulance crew attending the farming incident in Rutland. This convergence of highly skilled volunteers at the hospital underscored the collaborative spirit and expertise within our community, ensuring the best possible outcome for those in need.
We extend our heartfelt wishes for a full and swift recovery to all patients involved in these incidents. These events underscore the critical role that EMICS doctors play in our community, delivering advanced medical interventions in pre-hospital settings, often under the most challenging conditions.
The commitment of our volunteer doctors to providing immediate, life-saving care is a beacon of hope and reassurance for the East Midlands. Their actions not only save lives but also support the seamless integration of emergency medical services, from on-scene care to hospital treatment.
As we reflect on last weekend’s events, we are reminded of the importance of supporting EMICS. Please donate if you can.
