Hear Dr. Baker discuss his crucial volunteer role with the East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme (EMICS).
From severe car crashes to other critical incidents, when one of our doctors are on call, we will often receive direct requests from NHS paramedics or the 999 call center when advanced medical support is urgently needed.
“We’re called in for critical incidents when additional medical expertise is needed to provide advanced care” he said. This might include administering pain relief, sedation, or performing emergency surgical procedures to stabilize patients before they reach the hospital.
“In these scenarios, time is of the essence. EMICs is often the first to reach a patient, sometimes before an ambulance crew, and the actions we take in those initial moments can make the difference between life and death.”
EMICS has been running for 40 years as of 31 October 2024. Help us continue our lifesaving work! Please consider donating to our birthday fundraiser here: https://emics.org.uk/donate.
