Memorable First Aid Training at Karate Summer School

This summer, Dr. Tim Baker brought an exciting and educational twist to the Karate Union of Great Britain’s (KUGB) summer school. As a skilled GP by day, Dr. Tim, and volunteer EMICS volunteer emergency medic in his own time, taught the young karate students first aid in a way that was both engaging and memorable.

To make the learning experience more relatable and fun, Dr. Tim involved his 10-year-old son, Tomas, in the sessions. Together, they demonstrated key first aid techniques before guiding the students through a series of hands-on “circuit-training” stations. These stations covered essential first aid skills, including managing bleeding, performing CPR, carrying patients, applying splints and slings, and assisting someone who is choking.

Dr. Tim highlighted the importance of being prepared for emergencies. “First aid is a crucial skill because you never know when you might be called upon to help someone in need. If that moment comes, you’ll know what to do until professional help arrives,” he explained.

The KUGB thanked Dr. Tim saying: ” Thank you to Doctor Tim Baker for once again running a successful Emergency First Aid course at this year’s Karate Summer School.”
