EMICS

Help us save lives and prevent life changing injuries

What We Do

EMICS is a network of volunteer doctors with specialist training in pre-hospital emergency medicine who assist East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) at the scene of life threatening emergencies. EMICS doctors provide advanced specialist skills at the point of accident or injury, where they are needed most.

“Thank you for saving my little girl. Six years on and we will never forget the quick response of Dr Matt Woods, we owe you everything!”

Our volunteer doctors turn out at all hours, in all weather conditions, 365 days a year. This is all done on a voluntary basis, responding from home in their own vehicles, around normal work commitments.

Our doctors are dispatched alongside usual NHS resources to the most serious incidents in the region and arrive at scene carrying all their own kit and medications, funded entirely by the charity.

Who We Are

We are an independent not-for-profit, registered charity of specialist volunteer doctors, based across the East Midlands region.

The support we offer East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) is provided free-of-charge to the NHS. This is only achievable through our network of dedicated and passionate doctors who all give their time voluntarily and the generosity of donors across the East Midlands. We receive no government or NHS funding – we are 100% reliant on charitable donations.

Our doctors undergo a rigorous selection process and they must be prepared to commit to volunteering for at least 3 years. We put them through an intensive in-house Competency Based Training Programme; mentoring and monitoring them along the way.

There are no central staff costs, all our support team are volunteers, which means all money raised goes directly towards saving lives.

Where We Operate

Our network of volunteer doctors covers the entire East Midlands region – Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland and Northamptonshire.

Covering such a vast area, our volunteer doctors are called out to a wide range of incidents, in varied terrains from city centres to the more remote areas of the Derbyshire Dales and everywhere in between.
